When an Offer Ends, Update More Than the Advertisement

November 06, 2026•2 min read

Pausing a promotion’s main advertisement does not remove it from every conversation. A saved landing page, a scheduled message or an AI answer can continue presenting the old offer. Treat an offer change as a coordinated update across the customer journey.

Give the offer one approved record

Write down the service, included scope, price information if applicable, eligibility, start date, end date and person authorized to approve exceptions. Include the time zone when the offer ends at a particular time. Keep the commercial wording your team has approved.

The record should also say what replaces the offer. “Promotion ended” leaves the assistant without a useful answer. A current standard service or a person reviewing questions may be the right next step.

Use an offer retirement checklist

  • Pause or replace ads and scheduled campaign assets.
  • Update the landing page and any reusable promotional section.
  • Check form confirmations and redirect destinations.
  • Replace saved email, message and conversation replies.
  • Update the agent’s approved knowledge source.
  • Review future messages already queued for prospects.
  • Test old public links and ask the assistant about the expired offer.
  • Save the change date and the approved replacement language.

Handle people who inquired before the deadline

Your business needs a clear rule for whether eligibility depends on inquiry, booking, purchase or another event. Do not let an assistant invent the interpretation after the promotion closes. Preserve the customer’s original inquiry time and the terms they were shown.

When a case is ambiguous, route it to the person authorized to review it. The agent can explain that the team will check the request. It should not promise an extension or claim the customer is ineligible without an approved rule.

Test the old path, not just the new homepage

Open a direct link from an old campaign preview or saved message. Check what the prospect sees after submission and what the assistant says next. A page can display the new offer while its thank-you message still describes the old one.

Also search the approved answer library for the promotion’s distinctive wording. If several documents contain different versions, identify the authoritative current source rather than asking the agent to choose whichever sounds most attractive.

Keep promises clear across platforms

Google’s misrepresentation policy includes unavailable offers and misleading pricing. Review the current rules for each advertising platform you use. This checklist is an operating process, not an assessment that a particular advertisement complies with every requirement.

For the next campaign, include an end-of-offer owner and retirement date in the launch brief. Link those tasks to the same record used to approve the promotion. That makes closing the campaign a planned part of delivery rather than an emergency cleanup.
