How to Evaluate an AI Marketing Offer That Says It Replaces a Whole Team
An offer that says AI replaces an entire marketing team can sound simple. Your business still needs to know which jobs will be performed, who makes decisions, and what remains with staff. A headcount comparison is not a scope of service.
Before treating a broad claim as a reason to buy, translate it into work coverage. Ask the provider to show what happens during a normal month and during an exception. A service that handles several recurring tasks may be useful even when it does not replace every function of a marketing department.
Break the team claim into jobs
-
Function: Website information; Evidence to request: An accurate service update and checked buying path; Decision to retain or delegate explicitly: Who approves the underlying service facts?
-
Function: Search work; Evidence to request: A reasoned plan tied to useful customer questions; Decision to retain or delegate explicitly: Who confirms expertise and business fit?
-
Function: Advertising; Evidence to request: A defined offer, destination, budget, and review process; Decision to retain or delegate explicitly: Who approves spending and claims?
-
Function: Inquiry qualification; Evidence to request: Examples of suitable, unsuitable, and uncertain requests; Decision to retain or delegate explicitly: Who handles exceptions and final sales decisions?
Then list the jobs outside the proposal. Photography, product strategy, complex design work, event production, and closing sales should not be assumed to be included just because a service uses the word “team.” The exact boundary belongs in the agreement. Do not fill gaps with your own interpretation of a headline.
Ask what happens when the easy case ends
Use a realistic example that contains missing information. A buyer asks about a service you provide only under certain conditions. What does the service do next? The useful answer explains how approved facts are used, when the request is handed to a person, and who owns the next action.
Also ask how an agent’s work is reviewed. An unreviewed volume of drafts is different from an operator taking responsibility for useful published material. A booked conversation is different from a completed sale. The provider should be able to explain those distinctions without changing the definition of success halfway through the discussion.
The FTC’s advertising guidance stresses evidence for claims. As a buyer, ask what supports the specific capability being offered. For account authority, Google Ads access levels show that viewing, editing, and administration are separate permissions.
Compare retained work as well as covered work
Write a short retained-work list for your business. It might include approving offers, supplying current service information, reviewing unusual prospect questions, and conducting discovery calls. Assign a person to each. A proposal that appears inexpensive can require substantial owner time if these tasks are left unclear.
Finally, ask what changes when volume rises. Does the service handle a larger number of the same jobs, or does the scope change? “Replaces a team” is a poor answer to that question. You need the relevant limits, review capacity, and process for deciding whether another assignment should be added.
