How Do We Know Which Kits We Can Actually Assemble This Week?

November 05, 2026•2 min read

A count of finished kits misses what can be assembled from loose stock. A kit readiness agent can prepare a list from the approved component recipe, usable stock and existing commitments. The underlying arithmetic should be visible so a production lead can see which part limits the build.

Find the part that runs out first

A gift shop’s sample box needs two tins, one scoop and one outer box. Suppose 60 tins, 24 scoops and 40 boxes are available after existing reservations. Tins cover 30 kits, scoops cover 24 and boxes cover 40. The limit is 24. If ten scoops are then allocated to a separate order, the available kit count falls to 14. A list generated earlier in the day needs a timestamp.

Handle the details before making a promise

Keep components shared across recipes visible. Showing 24 gift kits and 24 tea samplers can double count the same scoops when both are planned together. Ask the agent to show alternative allocations, not to choose which customer’s order takes priority. Include damaged or quarantined components only after the person responsible releases them to usable stock.

Trial the list on one product family. Have the floor lead compare a proposed build with the parts physically available and record each difference. If the recipe was outdated, correct the source before adjusting the calculation. If available stock is changing quickly, recheck before quoting a firm date. This workflow prepares a planning decision. Purchasing and customer commitments still belong to authorized staff.

For the next step, see how to investigate mismatched component quantities.

Put this into practice

Bring an example of a recurring task. We can map what an agent can prepare, which decisions stay with your team, and what a pilot should measure.
