Escencion field guide: Managed AI Agents

An AI Agent for Investigating Inventory Count Differences

November 05, 2026•1 min read

The system lists 48 units, but the counter finds four boxes. The difference might be zero, forty four, or something else entirely. An inventory agent can gather the records needed to investigate. Inventory adjustments and explanations for missing items still require a person who can verify what happened on site.

Match the count to a moment in time

Use the item, unit of measure, storage bin, count window, and transactions near the cutoff. Compare receiving, transfers, picks, and shipments against when the physical count occurred. A transfer posted later can make a valid count appear wrong in a live snapshot.

For the four boxes, ask for the packaging definition tied to the item. If each sealed box contains twelve units, the apparent difference may disappear. An open box needs its own count. Where two pack sizes exist under related item codes, preserve that uncertainty for the counter.

What belongs in the recount packet

Give the supervisor recorded and counted quantity, units, source bin, recent movement references, possible timing conflicts, and one specific verification request. Avoid attributing causes to a worker based on activity logs. The evidence should guide a physical check.

Use historical differences that were ultimately resolved by a recount, a unit correction, and a genuinely missing item. Compare the agent’s proposed checks with the checks that resolved each case. If the team can narrow the next physical check without altering inventory records, the pilot serves a clear purpose. Track which differences still need several systems and which would be better fixed in the item master.

Put this into practice

Bring an example of a recurring task. We can map what an agent can prepare, which decisions stay with your team, and what a pilot should measure.
