Can You Add a Managed AI Marketing Agent Without Replacing Your Agency?
You may like your agency’s creative work and still have a marketing job that nobody owns. Perhaps service information stays out of date, or inquiries wait while staff are busy. Adding a managed AI agent can be worth discussing without replacing the relationship that already works. The buying decision is whether you can give the new service a useful, separate assignment.
Two providers editing the same campaign is not extra capacity. It is a coordination problem. Before signing, name the work the current agency keeps, the work the new provider would manage, and the person who can resolve a disagreement. A small assignment with clear boundaries is easier to judge than an informal promise to help wherever needed.
Draw a map of overlapping decisions
-
Marketing decision: Campaign budget and targeting; Primary operator: Existing agency, if retained; Other party’s role: Receive results; propose changes through the owner
-
Marketing decision: Service-page facts; Primary operator: Named website operator; Other party’s role: Supply approved customer questions and offer details
-
Marketing decision: Inquiry qualification rules; Primary operator: Named follow-up operator; Other party’s role: Review whether incoming leads match campaign promises
-
Marketing decision: Final offer changes; Primary operator: Business owner; Other party’s role: Both providers implement the same approved version
This is an example division, not a required package. Change the operators to match the service you buy. The important test is whether each row has one operator and one route for requesting changes. “Both teams will optimize it” leaves too much room for conflicting edits.
Buy the gap, then test the connection
Describe the gap with a recent example. If your agency sends useful traffic but nobody maintains service details, show an inaccurate page and the customer question it causes. Ask the proposed provider what it needs from the agency, what it will return, and which changes require the agency’s involvement. Do not buy another advertising service simply because advertising is included in a larger bundle.
Set a shared handoff test before release. For example, approve one service-page revision, let the agency check its campaign destination, and have your staff confirm that the page still makes the right promise. Keep the old version available. A successful handoff demonstrates that the two services can work together without leaving the owner to reconcile every change.
Google Ads access levels distinguish viewing from editing. Use that distinction when deciding who needs campaign access. Google’s change history also helps investigate account changes; it does not replace an agreed change owner.
Know when a joint arrangement is a poor fit
If an existing agreement gives one provider exclusive control, resolve that before connecting another service. If nobody can explain who owns the accounts, establish ownership first. And if both providers need to perform the same core job, a clear replacement or smaller scope may be easier to manage than permanent overlap.
