Carry the Advertisement’s Promise Into the Sales Handoff

November 06, 2026•2 min read

A salesperson cannot reliably continue a marketing conversation if they do not know what the advertisement promised. Preserve the relevant offer alongside the inquiry so the first call begins with the customer’s actual expectations.

Record the offer, not just the channel

“Facebook lead” tells the employee where the inquiry came from, but not which service, package or next step the person expected. Store a stable campaign reference and the approved offer version. Where practical, keep the relevant ad wording or a reviewable preview.

Do not overwrite the source when the prospect later books through a calendar. The booking method and original acquisition source answer different questions. Your salesperson needs the offer context even if the customer visits several pages before scheduling.

Use a promise handoff card

  • Service requested: what the person actually asked about.
  • Offer version: the approved campaign or promotion reference.
  • Important claim: a price condition, included item or timing statement that could affect expectations.
  • Information shown: the relevant page or document version.
  • Questions already answered: the agent’s factual replies.
  • Unresolved expectation: anything the team must confirm before proposing work.

Preserve customer statements separately

If the person says “I thought the setup was included,” record that as their understanding. It is not proof that the advertisement made the claim. Compare the current record with the actual campaign version and have a person resolve the difference.

The assistant should not argue with the prospect or reinterpret commercial terms to preserve a booking. It can acknowledge the question and explain that the team will clarify the scope.

Use the record in the first minute of the call

An illustrative opening might be: “You asked about the website improvement service from our campaign. Before we discuss scope, was there anything in that offer you wanted us to explain?” This checks understanding without pretending the person has already agreed to a package.

Train staff to review the handoff before calling. An accurate record has little value if everyone begins by asking the prospect to repeat information already provided. Allow corrections and keep their source visible.

Close the feedback loop on misleading expectations

If several prospects misunderstand the same point, review the wording and presentation. The issue may be a missing condition, an unclear package description or a conversational answer that sounds broader than the offer.

Google’s misrepresentation policy addresses misleading information and relevance between promotions and destinations. Your internal handoff should help the business maintain a consistent, accurate explanation after the click as well.

Use campaign naming to make references understandable and offer matching to check the earlier page experience. Build Your AI Agents to discuss managed ads and conversion agents that work from the same approved offer.
