What makes an MSP sales appointment qualified?

October 27, 2026•2 min read

A qualified, completed MSP sales appointment needs a relevant IT or security decision-maker, a legitimate technology need, an attended discovery meeting, and a business that matches the agreed target customer profile. A calendar booking alone is not enough.

Agree the customer profile before outreach

Define geography, company characteristics, service needs, exclusions, and the types of decisions your MSP is equipped to support. Avoid accepting a meeting just because the company is large or the contact has a senior title. Fit must relate to the service you can actually deliver.

Confirm a relevant decision-maker

The person should have a relevant role in evaluating, influencing, or deciding IT or security purchases. Record their role and how the decision will be made. Do not assume a job title proves budget authority, and do not describe an unverified contact as the final decision-maker.

Find a legitimate reason to talk

An infrastructure upgrade, cybersecurity requirement, provider change, cloud project, or agreed assessment use case can create a useful discussion. Prefer active purchasing plans. A generic desire to network or exchange referrals is not the same thing as a technology need.

Count attendance separately

Track booked, rescheduled, no-show, and attended meetings separately. A meeting should only enter the completed-appointment count when discovery actually occurs. Rescheduling is follow-up activity, not a second delivered meeting.

Record the result of discovery

Capture the stated need, agreed next step, missing information, and responsible people. Qualification establishes a relevant sales conversation. It does not prove that the buyer will purchase or that the proposal will be accepted.

Write the standard into the pilot

Escencion agrees the qualification criteria and campaign launch date before delivery begins. Its 30-Day Performance Pilot targets two qualified, completed appointments within 30 days of launch. Bookings, no-shows, irrelevant contacts, and random networking conversations do not count.

THE ESCENCION OFFER

A managed sales process for your MSP or MSSP.

Start with the $997 30-Day Performance Pilot plus approved lead data at actual cost. Target two qualified, completed appointments within 30 days of campaign launch. If delivered, continue at $4,800/month afterward. Closing commissions are negotiated separately.

If the pilot target is missed, no additional pilot retainer is owed and continuation is optional. This is not a refund promise, and approved data costs still apply.
