Holiday Hours Are a Marketing Detail Customers Rely On
A holiday-hours update can matter more to a customer than another promotional post. Someone may be planning a visit, a pickup, or work at their property. If the website and Google disagree, the person has to guess which one your team will honor.
Approve the actual operating plan first
Confirm the dates, customer-facing hours, appointment availability, and who can answer urgent questions. Separate office availability from service delivery. A phone answered during a holiday does not necessarily mean a workshop, showroom, or installation crew is available.
Google provides special-hours settings for temporary changes to normal business hours. Use the current guidance for your situation rather than changing regular hours for a short closure and hoping somebody remembers to restore them.
Build a one-row-per-date checklist
-
Date or period: Holiday closure; Approved customer promise: Whether visits, pickups, and service appointments are unavailable.; Places to check: Website, Business Profile, booking calendar.
-
Date or period: Shorter opening day; Approved customer promise: Exact customer-facing hours and any final cutoff.; Places to check: Hours page, profile, relevant service notice.
-
Date or period: Office open, service paused; Approved customer promise: What staff can actually help with.; Places to check: Contact copy, inquiry confirmation, booking options.
-
Date or period: Return to regular operation; Approved customer promise: The date normal arrangements resume.; Places to check: Temporary banners and saved announcements.
Assign one person to approve the facts and another responsible person or provider to update the relevant surfaces. A shared calendar note is not a public update until the customer-facing pages actually change.
Inspect the public result as a customer
Look up your profile and open the hours page without relying only on the editor. Follow the booking link to see which dates the tool offers. If a service takes requests while the office is closed, make that distinction clear: accepting a request is not confirming a holiday appointment.
Check the message a customer sees after sending a form. A promise such as “we will call today” becomes misleading if the team will not return until next week. Adapt the wording to your real process, including a clear response window when the business can commit to one.
Keep temporary notices from becoming permanent clutter
Record when the notice should come down and who will check that it did. A closure banner left up long afterward can make the business look unavailable. Reusing last year’s notice without verifying the dates can create a new problem even when the design looks familiar.
Do not rewrite every page for every holiday. Maintain the facts in the right places and link to them from the customer decisions they affect. Make important exceptions visible where a person chooses to visit or book.
Give an agent an approved source of hours
A managed marketing agent can help prepare and review coordinated updates, but it should not infer operating hours from a general holiday calendar. Have the business approve the schedule. After publication, keep evidence of the public profile, website, and booking state so everyone knows what customers were told.
Include the reopening date in the review.
