EV Charger Installation Leads: What Should an Electrician Ask Before the Estimate?

November 05, 2026•2 min read

Someone searching for an EV charger may want installation, a replacement cable, help with a public charger or advice on choosing equipment. A product image and “Get yours today” can attract all four. If your revenue comes from residential installation, name the work in the first line and show what happens before you quote.

Ask about the site without asking the customer to inspect it

Useful first questions concern the property, the intended parking location and whether the customer already owns the charger. A photo showing the driveway or parking arrangement may help your estimator decide what else to ask. Leave technical and safety assessments to a qualified electrician. A prospect should never need to open electrical equipment or guess circuit capacity to make an inquiry.

Ask your estimator to write a plain description of the next step: “We review the location with you and confirm what needs an on-site assessment before pricing.” If some properties require owner or association permission before work can proceed, give the customer a place to flag that situation. Have your office review what your business can promise in the areas it serves.

Find out where estimate requests fall apart

Compare inquiries with the estimates your electrician actually issued. Mark reasons such as equipment-only question, property outside scope, site visit declined or estimate completed. If apartment residents repeatedly ask you to repair public charging stations, tighten the headline and example imagery. If homeowners are interested but abandon the form at a technical question, remove that question and have the estimator gather it during the visit.

For the next step, see how to choose which site details to collect before calling back.
