Should You Run Search Ads for Your Own Business Name?
If someone searches for your exact business name, they may already intend to reach you. A paid click can help them get to the right page, especially during a launch or when the visible results are confusing. The campaign report alone cannot tell you how many of those buyers would have reached you without the ad.
Inspect the actual customer journey
Search for the brand and important variations from the markets where you operate. Look at what the visitor can see and which links answer their likely question. Separate customer support, careers, existing client logins and genuine new business. A campaign that collects all of these searches into one result is difficult to evaluate as acquisition.
Imagine a national supplier with a distributor and a similarly named manufacturer. An ad linking directly to its wholesale inquiry page may help buyers distinguish the businesses. A local studio whose homepage and booking link are easy to find may face a different decision. Write down the specific problem the branded ad is intended to solve.
Agree on what an experiment can tell you
If practical, compare similar periods or markets with different exposure while keeping other promotions stable. Count total new qualified inquiries from paid and unpaid search together. Track the cost and look for displaced organic clicks as well as potential gains. Differences in seasonality, competition and branch capacity limit what you can conclude. A small sample can easily make a normal change in demand look like an advertising effect.
Before the test, set a review date and the conditions under which you would restore or adjust the campaign. Ask your managed ads team to explain the business decision using those total outcomes. A low reported cost per branded conversion is a clue to investigate, not a complete answer about incremental customers.
