How Bookkeeping Firms Can Get Monthly Clients From Ads During Tax Season

November 05, 2026•2 min read

A business owner searching for someone to clean up last year’s books may want one project before filing. Another has a busy company and wants someone to run the monthly close. Both might describe the need as “help with my accounts.” A bookkeeping firm selling ongoing work needs to find out what will happen after the first month.

Lead with the ongoing job

Describe what a recurring engagement covers in language a business owner recognizes. For example, your firm might reconcile agreed accounts, prepare a monthly report and flag items for an owner to clarify. Use only services you actually provide. Explain whether a catch-up project is required or quoted separately and how your team evaluates a new account.

Give the prospect a useful first choice: “I need ongoing monthly help,” “I have overdue months to catch up,” or “I’m trying to identify the right service.” If tax preparation is separate from your offering, clarify that at the point where the visitor chooses. Collect approximate workload or software only if someone uses it to route the inquiry. Save financial documents for the firm’s approved onboarding process.

Compare opportunities after the rush

Mark inquiries that became a review call, those quoted for recurring work, and ongoing engagements actually signed. Track standalone cleanups separately, even when they produce good revenue. This shows whether a campaign is bringing in the work you planned to staff.

When a large share of eligible leads wants ongoing help but balks at onboarding, explain the initial review and scope before the consultation. When most inquiries only want a tax return, change the advertising promise first.

For the next step, see how to plan a campaign around seasonal demand and team capacity.
