An AI Handoff From Sales to the Team Delivering the Work
A customer signs for a standard installation. The salesperson remembers discussing an expedited date, and the implementation lead hears about it for the first time on the kickoff call. A sales handoff agent can make that difference visible before the team gives the customer an answer.
Ask for four different kinds of information
Start with the signed scope, the customer’s stated goal, commitments already approved, and open questions. Separate each into its own field with a source. An enthusiastic note in a CRM can capture a customer preference without creating an agreed delivery date.
For the expedited installation, the brief might read, “Signed agreement lists the standard service window. Customer asked about Friday in the sales call. No approved schedule change located. Delivery lead to confirm feasibility.” That gives the kickoff owner a specific action and a way to explain the situation.
Make the receiving team accept the handoff
Give delivery a named owner and a way to mark the packet ready, request clarification, or flag missing source material. Sensitive customer information should move only to the people and systems that need it. Sales still owns clarification of what was represented in the sale.
Run the pilot on a clear win, a deal with several proposal versions, and one with verbal requests that never made it into the agreement. Ask whether delivery can open its first customer conversation without reinterviewing the salesperson. Measure corrections to scope and schedule separately from missing contact details. That distinction tells you what information the process genuinely needs to collect earlier.
