Escencion field guide: Managed AI Agents

Can an AI Agent Help With Address or Item Changes After Checkout?

November 05, 2026•2 min read

A customer emails the moment they realize a gift is headed to the wrong address. The agent’s useful job is to assemble the right order, who made the request, what should change and how far fulfillment has progressed. It should leave redirection, charges, refunds and confirmation to an authorized person.

Make the packing cutoff visible

At a stationery shop, three orders could be at three different stages. The first has never reached the packing desk. The second has a printed label but is still in the building. The third has been collected. Show staff the last confirmed fulfillment event and its time. The second may need a physical check. The third may require a carrier process and the outcome may be uncertain.

Keep account changes separate from order changes

Ask whether the customer wants this one delivery changed or wants to update their default for future orders. Verify using the business’s approved customer checks. A message from an unfamiliar address with a valid order number deserves review. A new address typed in a forwarded message should never become sufficient authority to redirect goods.

Test a request against a split shipment, another that arrives while the warehouse is packing and one that changes size and price. The agent can flag which lines are affected and prepare a reply for review. Measure how many requests staff resolve before dispatch and how often the status was stale. If your store already offers customers a controlled self service window, reserve the agent for exceptions outside that window.

For the next step, see how to check shipment status before promising a change.

Put this into practice

Bring an example of a recurring task. We can map what an agent can prepare, which decisions stay with your team, and what a pilot should measure.
