What an AI implementation statement of work should include
Write the scope so a person outside the project could tell when the work is done. If the only deliverable is “implement an AI assistant,” the buyer and builder can agree on the sentence while picturing different products. Replace it with an event, an action, a destination and a named reviewer.
Write a deliverable you can demonstrate
For a customer onboarding project, a usable statement might read, “When an approved intake arrives, create a draft checklist in the onboarding queue, attach the intake reference and assign the account coordinator to verify missing items.” Then specify which intake form, which queue and which kinds of customers the first release covers.
Record the exclusions beside the deliverable. This release might leave welcome emails, billing changes and access provisioning with the existing teams. If the business later wants the assistant to grant account access, the parties can evaluate that as a separate permission and cost decision.
Agree on evidence, ownership and handoff
Choose a short set of acceptance cases with the people who do the work. Include a complete intake, one missing a field, an existing customer and a submission that arrives twice. Define the expected result for each case. Name who can accept delivery and how long the reviewer has to report a discrepancy.
Add a handoff list covering the system accounts, operator instructions, escalation contact, change history and where the customer can see failures. Budget for ongoing ownership separately from the build. A team that changes its intake form frequently needs to know who will update the field mapping and how that work is priced.
Before kickoff, let the reviewer read the entire scope against one actual onboarding. If they cannot identify the first screen they open or the last decision they make, revise that section before implementation begins.
Put this into practice
Bring a sample of the work and the tools your team uses. We can help define a first project, who reviews it, and how to tell if it works.
